Jets relieved Cameron Clark’s spinal injury isn’t more serious

2 min read

The Jets exhaled on Tuesday night after finding out backup offensive lineman Cameron Clark had suffered a spinal contusion and nothing more serious.

Practice ended Tuesday after Clark was motionless on the ground following a play. He was taken off the field on a backboard and then transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Clark regained the feeling in his extremities and was diagnosed with the contusion and is expected to make a full recovery.

“It was a tremendous sense of relief,” Jets coach Robert Saleh said. “Joe [Douglas] and myself had a chance to go visit him [Tuesday night] and he’s in great spirits. He’s supposed to get out [Wednesday] and just get a chance to get him back to being Cameron, but obviously a big sigh of relief.”

Clark, a fourth-round pick in 2020, was getting second-team reps in training camp. His football future is now uncertain.

“We’re not there yet,” Saleh said.

Rookie CB Brandin Echols, a sixth-round pick, saw time with the starting defense on Wednesday.

“He’s got good foot speed, he plays big, he plays strong, and he’s been able to absorb all the things that have been coming at him,” Saleh said. “He’s been doing a great job versus twos and threes, and wanted to give him some run with the ones to see how he measures up and I thought he held his own out there.”
