NFL teams around the league have a number of decisions to make in the upcoming months regarding free agency, the NFL draft and exercising players’ fifth-year options.

Players who were selected in the 2018 draft are eligible to have their fifth-year options exercised this offseason. For the Seahawks, the man in the hot seat is running back Rashaad Penny.

Seattle will have to decide whether or not Penny has shown enough promise over his first three NFL seasons to merit an extra year on his rookie contract.

“Penny has been plagued by the injury bug, but even at 100 percent, he’s not the best running back on Seattle’s roster, which makes it tough to commit to him beyond 2021 at this point,” writes NFL.com’s Gil Brandt.

The folks over at Touchdown Wire are also feeling a big NO when it comes to Penny getting his fifth-year extension.

“Penny hasn’t seized the No. 1 running back spot in the Seahawks’ offense, and Seattle has a good thing going with Chris Carson,” notes Mark Lane.

The Seahawks are undoubtedly having heated discussions when it comes to their run game, considering Penny’s fifth year and what to do with Carson and Carlos Hyde, who are both unrestricted free agents.
